Saturday of Mardi Gras, Fred’s Lounge, Mamou Louisiana. Established 1946. On Saturday mornings you will find live music being played and broadcast on KVPI 1050 AM. Pack in tight to enjoy the revelers on the dance floor. Order a Bloody Mary or a can beer from the bar and don’t forget to buy you a t-shirt. Louisiana has several places you can visit for Mardi Gras including New Orleans, Lafayette, & Lake Charles. However, there is nothing like the atmosphere at Fred’s Lounge in Mamou on the Saturday of Mardi Gras. You will find people of all ages, backgrounds, and dancing abilities enjoying the fellowship, music, and good times. Meander up and down 6th street and you will find several other bars and restaurants that open 8am serving up food and drinks to happy patrons. On 6th street you will find a stage for concerts starting at with local legend Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys followed up with Ferral Manuel & the Wild Rice Band. The celebration will continue into early evening in Mamou. Sunday is usually a day of rest followed by Lundi Gras and ‘courir de Mardi Gras’ or Fat Tuesday run. Getting away from the glitz and glamor of the large parades and balls has its benefits. Old time traditions are alive and well in Mamou Louisiana. Laissez les bons temps rouler mi amigos!
