We all have dreams and desires to travel to certain places or complete certain activities. Many of us list those items down in order to visualize what we want to achieve. We call those list Bucket List. Basically, items we want to check off before we kick the bucket. This past week I completed a bucket list trip that I’ve been wanting to make even before I started riding motorcycles. Sturgis South Dakota is the mecca for all riders in the United States and abroad. It’s a small town of about 7,000 people that swells to 500,000+ during 2 weeks in August. All rally’s have several vendors selling parts for motorcycles, clothing, food, and just about everything you can imagine. What makes Sturgis unique in my opinion is the surrounding topography. The Black Hills National Forest is the perfect place to take a ride on two wheels. The mountains will have you twisting and turning with some of the most stunning views of scenery and wildlife. There are several national parks including Devils Tower, Custard, and The Badlands. There are several small towns nearby that also cater to the biker including Deadwood, Spearfish, & Hill City. I opted in to ride my motorcycle from my home in Lake Charles Louisiana all the way up to Sturgis South Dakota. The one way trip is nearly 1,500 miles that I broke up into two days with an overnight stay in Woodward Oklahoma. It’s a long ride, 12 hours each day. The route up took me through 6 states and several small towns. This is the heartland of America. Farms with windmills, produce, and cattle as far as the eye can see. I literally thought I was riding through a Norman Rockwell painting the whole way. I visited several large saloons including Full Throttle and Buffalo Chip both just north of Sturgis. These venues include vendors selling merchandise, food, tattoos, and concerts by local and famous bands. I got to see Colt Ford, Styx, and REO Speedwagon live amongst thousands and thousands of bikers. Everyone that I met and interacted with was polite, respectful, and friendly. I made this entire trip solo but never felt alone. I took hundreds of photos to share on social media with friends and family back home. I made memories that will last a lifetime. I’ve fallen in love with a town and surrounding area that I didn’t know would have such a profound impact on my soul. All said I visited 8 states and rode my motorcycle 4,112 miles in 7 days. As soon as I got back home I already started making plans for next year. I have several items on my bucket list that I want to complete, but this is an item that I want to repeat. Rise and Ride mi amigos! Everyday is a good day to get into the wind.
